The stainless steel is a material widely used in the industry, this is due to it being a very noble material in its use, as it has a resistance and capabilities much superior to any type of metal.

However, the type of finished material that we want to obtain in the final result, will have to do with the stainless steel components with which it is made, depending on this will be the type of alloy and what we can use it for, the resistance and the properties that the final product will have.

In the following lines you will be able to learn a little more about the different types of stainless steel components with which it can be made and what results you are going to get, keep reading for more information.

Stainless Steel

Before fully entering the topic that concerns us, it is important to have a bit of history and go back to the basics, what is or how is stainless steel made.

Stainless steel, in its pure version, is a combination of iron and carbon. The percentage of carbon will vary, between 0.05% to 2% at most, this will give it the properties of durability, hardness and resistance that define stainless steel.

However, sometimes other materials can be added to the mixture (iron content and carbon content), this combination is known as alloyed steels.

Alloyed Steels

The main component of stainless steel is ferrous metal or iron, however, when making an alloy with more types of stainless steel components, apart from carbon, which as previously described, can be up to 2%, it becomes an alloyed steel that gives properties that help improve the result. Some of the most common combinations are described below.

Manganese

Manganese is a component that, when mixed with iron and carbon, provides greater durability and wear resistance to stainless steel, as well as making it a bit harder. In this way we obtain a hard sheet, resistant to wear and increases the resistance to oxidation caused by the environment.

Chromium Oxide

Another of the types of stainless steel components that can be added to the final result is one of the hardest metals. When we add chromium oxide to the recipe, we create stainless steel pieces with superior hardness.

On the other hand, the finish becomes much shinier and aesthetic, in addition to this component making it completely rust-free, so, to obtain steel pieces much more resistant in all senses and that, above all, if we want a steel that is impossible to rust, chromium, definitely, must be present

Nickel

Nickel is a hard material, but at the same time, flexible that, in the case of stainless steel, with the combination of these three metals (iron, carbon and nickel). Stainless steel pieces are obtained with a resistance to corrosion caused by the elements of nature (cold, heat, rain, etc.), it also increases the resistance to tension and we add toughness to the final sheets.

Although there are other components that can be added to stainless steel, the ones described above are the most common and used, however, both the quantity and the type of material that is added, will help the final result to be just as we need it for the conditions we require.

At Ulbrinox we have more than 25 years of experience in Mexico and we can help you get the result you require and with the perfect products to create the stainless steel you need. Contact us to know what other elements you can add to your stainless steel pieces and you can be advised by experts.

We look forward to seeing you!
