Steel is one of the most used and recycled metals in the world, its characteristics, already mentioned in our previous articles, make it a material of unimaginable utility.
Being an unalterable metal, it does not lose any of its qualities, such as: resistance, hardness or malleability, after recycling processes. Therefore, it can be recycled as many times as desired.
Steel recycling process
Once the steel has completed its useful life, it becomes a waste known as scrap. The purpose of steel recycling is twofold, on the one hand it allows us to reduce the consumption of raw materials, and on the other hand, it achieves energy savings, since the process of obtaining steel from iron ore involves a very high energy expenditure.
1. The generated scrap is pressed forming large compact packages that are transported to the industries that are going to recycle the metal.
2. They are melted in special furnaces, then they are incorporated into the steel production process. Their fusion is together with the molten iron at about 1700 °C.
3. The mixture becomes liquid metal, then it is converted into large blocks, which are then rolled. These coils are cut according to specifications and are delivered to industrial customers as raw material.
Steel recycling can translate into significant figures in favor of the planet, so it not only represents an economic saving, but a further step towards the creation of a more ecological world.
At Ulbrinox we are aware of the situation the planet is facing, that's why we are proud that our raw material is part of the solution for a better world. For more information about our stainless steel products, do not hesitate to contact us.
