The type 201 is an austenitic Cr-Ni-Mn steel that was developed as an alternative to type 301 or 304 in many applications. Its low nickel content along with the level of manganese ensures good corrosion resistance properties, good weldability and average formability properties. The corrosion resistance properties are lower than 304, while formability has an intermediate value between 304 and traditional ferritic steels. This alloy is NOT magnetic in the annealed condition and transforms to slightly magnetic when worked in wire and deformed. Type 201 can replace 304 or 301 in some applications where the properties are not very demanding.
General applications that require corrosion resistance: automotive moldings, windshield wipers, screws, automotive window and door moldings, various formed sections, sanitary containers, food and beverage processors, kitchen utensils, components of household appliances, various stamped parts.
